Driveway King Reef Resort

Accessibility

King Reef Resort was taken over by the current family owner/operators in May, 2022.  Since then, they have been working towards increased accessibility for everyone.  Their opinion is that increasing accessibility for all makes the experience better for each guest.  This manifests as good times, relaxed vibes and fun.  Beach-side and stress-free is part of the ethos here, and we want to make it accessible for all.

In this time, King Reef Resort has installed a ramp between the caravan park & hotel, installed a new wheelchair accessible shower and toilet for use from the pool/caravan park and the hotel/bistro, as well as concreting the driveway, which gives all guests a smooth area from parking to the motel units.  On check in, we use an iPad which has adjustable font to assist visual impairment.  Our sites have recently been upgraded to have LED lights on the utility pedestals to ensure there is plenty of  night vision.  Our quiet time is 10pm, so anyone adversely affected by stimuli will have plenty of down time available.

We are not stopping there!  As we progress with our upgrades, the next in line is the caravan park amenities block.  With upgraded pathways and the removal of steps and lips, the addition of rails, as well as lovely new fittings, we think this will lift our park to the next level.  We hope you agree.  After that, we are looking at getting a new pool area with graded entrance.  We already have a rail for assistance and this will not be forgotten in the new version.  We are also adding in seats for those who just wish to relax and rest!

Sustainability

The sustainability journey is ongoing for King Reef Resort.  We value the pristine environment that we are part of and are proactively improving our practices to ensure the longevity of the rainforest and the reef that we are surrounded by.

At any stage of your visit to King Reef Resort, feel free to request copies of the following documents that we are guided by:

  1. Employee Eco-training tracker
  2. Environmental Management Plan
  3. Workplace discrimination, harassment & anti-bullying policies
  4. Supplier policy document
  5. Sustainability action plan

To ensure we are continually improving, we are members of Tropical Tourism North Queensland (TTNQ) and Cassowary Coast Tourism.  Our directors are upskilling in these areas constantly and look for new and innovative ways to create a successful business while respecting the environment around us.

Our priority is fresh and local, whether it be seafood & meats or packaging and waste disposal.  We choose local first to continue the circular economy of the area and to cut down on emissions.  We employ as locally as possible, reaching out into the community to ensure that anyone who has a matching skillset, and is local, is looked at first.

When you come and visit, you can ask our resident family of Bush-stone Curlews who have been living happily in our caravan park for the past 2 and a half years.  Don’t get too close though, we make sure that we do not upset them, especially when they are nesting or have young chicks.

We hope to soon share with you that we have received our Ecotourism Australia Sustainability Accreditation!  This would be a fabulous reward for the effort we have been putting into our journey.  Check out our socials for updated information and watch this space!!
